Warhammer 40,000 Legends – Overview

On the off chance that you haven’t heard (perhaps your head’s been in the sand for the last few months), Hachette and Black Library have teamed up to create a partwork series of Black Library 40k novels called the Warhammer 40,000 Legends Collection. Every fortnight a new book is released, and over time you can build up an awesome collection of 40k novels in lovely hardback format, complete with spine artwork that fits together to create (eventually) an original piece of art featuring all manner of famous 40k characters.

Track of Words on The Imperial Truth

Head over to iTunes, if you use it, then navigate to the Podcasts section and search for Warhammer. Or Games Workshop. Or the Horus Heresy. There are literally dozens of podcasts out there talking about all manner of things to do with the hobby, between them generating hours and hours of content. I’ve tended to be a bit of an unintentional luddite so far when it comes to podcasts, as until recently I’ve never quite managed to get myself keyed into them as part of my routine. Well, that’s about to change…

Black Library Advent Calendar 2016

As is fast becoming tradition, it’s December and Black Library are celebrating the approach of Christmas with an Advent Calendar consisting of twenty-four new stories released one per day right up until Christmas Eve. After 2014’s selection of 40k and Horus Heresy short stories and audio dramas, and 2015’s Call of Chaos mixing stories and Games Workshop rules content for 40k and Age of Sigmar, this year we’re getting a variety of content across 40k, Horus Heresy, Age of Sigmar and even Blood Bowl!

Black Library Live Coming Soon – Age of Sigmar

In the last of three posts covering the new titles announced at Black Library Live 2016, this time I’m looking at a couple of newly-announced titles for the Warhammer Age of Sigmar range – both by the incredibly productive Josh Reynolds.

As with the previous posts (on the upcoming Warhammer 40,000 and Horus Heresy titles) there were no release dates given for either of these new titles, and neither of these have got covers yet.

We didn’t get a lot of details on these in the seminar, but I spoke to Josh Reynolds, author of both titles, who gave me a little bit of information about each of them.

Black Library Live Coming Soon – The Horus Heresy

In the second of three posts covering the new titles announced at Black Library Live 2016, I’m taking a look here at the upcoming Horus Heresy releases (including the Primarchs series). I’ve included comments from series editor Laurie Goulding alongside some of the titles, to give a little extra detail.

As with the previous post (on the upcoming Warhammer 40,000 titles) it’s worth remembering that these are not necessarily listed in publication order – no release dates were given. Once again I’ve not included anything that (at the time of writing) is showing up in the Coming Soon section of the Black Library website.

Black Library Live Coming Soon – Warhammer 40,000

The first seminar of Black Library Live 2016 was all about what’s coming up in the next year or so from Black Library. Featuring Nick Kyme and Laurie Goulding, it saw our two intrepid editors running through a load of upcoming titles from various settings, and providing a little bit of background to most of them. I got the distinct impression that this may not be all of the new releases for next year, as I think they’re keen to keep some things back as surprises, but they covered a good number of titles.

I’ve listed out all of the titles that were mentioned in the first seminar, with as much detail as I have about each. There were so many new releases that I’ve split things out into multiple posts, beginning in this one with the new Warhammer 40,000 titles. It’s worth pointing out that these are in no particular order as release dates were not provided, that I’m not including anything that’s currently (at the time of writing) displayed in the Coming Soon section on the Black Library website, and that some of these covers are going to change before publication.

Upcoming Black Library Releases (as of October/November 2016)

After the long-awaited return of the Black Library website’s Coming Soon section, news is now breaking of a further tranche of new books heading our way in the coming months. A quick trawl through the dusty corridors of the internet reveals a fair number of new titles, although here I’ve excluded the paperback versions of books already released or announced.

It’s worth bearing in mind that these release dates are almost certainly going to be the wider online releases, as opposed to the initial Black Library website releases, so take with a considerable pinch of salt. In addition, very few of the covers look to have the finished artwork, so keep an eye out for the official covers once these reach the Black Library website. Continue reading

Warhammer 40,000 Legends Issue Three – Warriors of Ultramar by Graham McNeill

The Warhammer 40,000 Legends Collection from Hachette continues with Issue Three, featuring Warriors of Ultramar by Graham McNeill. First published way back in 2003, it sees Captain Uriel Ventris of the Ultramarines 4th Company leading his men in defence of Tarsis Ultra against the numberless monstrosities of Hive Fleet Leviathan. While not quite such a classic as Issue Two’s Xenos, it’s a popular title from a much-loved series, although there’s one oddity immediately obvious about choosing this for Issue Three…

Warhammer 40,000 Legends Issue Two – Xenos by Dan Abnett

Issue 2 of Hachette’s Warhammer 40,000 Legends partwork series features a stone-cold 40k classic in the shape of Xenos by Dan Abnett. Originally published way back in 2001 and intended to tie in with Games Workshop’s latest game Inquisitor, it subsequently spawned two more books to complete the Eisenhorn trilogy, several short stories and audio dramas, a further trilogy featuring Eisenhorn’s protégé Ravenor, one book of a potential further trilogy (Pariah, which may or may not end up with two more novels to form a third trilogy), and computer game. Suffice to say it’s been quite popular.
