The Black Library ‘Coming Soon’ Page – Gone But Not Forgotten?

Back in October 2016 I published this article commenting on how exciting it felt after a long time with zero information about new releases to finally have a Coming Soon page on the Black Library website – a place where fans like me could find out about new books and audios due for release in the following months. Just under two and a half years later the Coming Soon page quietly disappeared, much to the disappointment – in some cases vociferous – of many BL fans. Now the dust has settled I want to have a look at what happened, what’s been said since, and what the future looks like for finding out about new BL releases.

Black Library Monthly – March 2019

Welcome to Black Library Monthly for March 2019, the latest in this series of articles where I take a look back at all the Black Library-related news and releases of the preceding month, as well as talk a little about what I’ve been reading and reviewing. March has been an interesting month for Black Library fans with some interesting news, a few major releases, and a little controversy, so there’s lots to talk about this time around. For the first time in 2019 I’ve actually got this roundup ready for the end of the month itself, rather than partway into the following month, so hopefully there’s plenty of interesting, relevant info to digest.

The Solar War On-Sale and What Happened Next

“First Siege of Terra book sells out in minutes!” As a headline that has a good ring to it, right? It could even have been the line that Black Library took publicly after the £50 Limited Edition hardback of John French’s The Solar War went on sale – and did indeed sell out – this Saturday. As with many a headline, however, while it’s technically accurate it doesn’t entirely do justice to the reality of what happened. In this article I’m taking a look at what happened when the latest Limited Edition hardback went on sale, how Black Library responded and what I would love to see in future.

Warhammer Horror – What We Know So Far (March 2019)

First announced at Black Library Live in 2018, the new Warhammer Horror range is almost upon us – the first titles are due to go up for pre-orders on Saturday 23rd March, so there’s really not long to wait now. That being said, I’m sure I’m not the only Black Library fan who’s keen to know more about what this new range is going to mean for stories set in the worlds of Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar, and so as I find my own excitement growing I thought I’d take a look at what’s been confirmed so far.

The Black Library Celebration 2019

Back at the beginning of 2018, the first Black Library Celebration took place over the weekend of the 24th and 25th February to mark 20 years of Black Library stories. It looks like we can now say that it’s an annual event, as the 2019 Black Library Celebration has recently taken place, this time featuring a whole week of brand new releases as a celebration (surprise, surprise) of all things Black Library. An annual celebration of stories set in the worlds of 40k and Age of Sigmar is something I can absolutely get behind, so I thought I’d take a closer look at what was involved this year.

Black Library Monthly – February 2019

Welcome to Black Library Monthly for February 2019, the latest in this series of articles where I take a look back at all the Black Library-related news and releases of the preceding month, as well as talk a little about what I’ve been reading and reviewing. After quite a quiet January I got myself back in the reading and writing saddle for February, although I’m still deliberately putting out less content on Track of Words than the one-a-day posts I produced for large parts of 2018! With lots of reviews and blog posts to mention, as well as a decent number of new releases – bolstered by the second annual Black Library Celebration (although more on this in a separate article to come), there’s plenty to talk about in this month’s roundup.

Warhammer Adventures – The Adventures Begin

Back in May 2018 Black Library announced the first details for Warhammer Adventures, a new range of novels aimed at younger readers. Fast forward to February 2019 and the first two books are in stores and available to download online – Warped Galaxies: Attack of the Necron by Cavan Scott and Realm Quest: City of Lifestone by Tom Huddleston. There’s been plenty of conversation along the way, from the community’s initial thoughts about the idea through to news about famous names narrating the audiobooks, but now that I’ve read the first two books I thought I’d do a quick recap of the range’s purpose and talk a little about what these stories are actually like.

The Horus Heresy Weekender 2019

The 2019 Horus Heresy Weekender has been and gone, so as usual I wanted to write a little bit about the Black Library elements of the event specifically, and my thoughts about the event overall. As with previous years, my focus (while there, as well as in this article) is on the Black Library side of things rather than the models and the game, so I’m not going to talk much about those aspects here. There are plenty of people out there covering those sides of the event in LOADS of detail, so I’ll keep things focused on the books as usual.

Black Library Monthly – January 2019

Welcome to Black Library Monthly for January 2019, the first in a new series of articles in which I’ll be taking a look back at the preceding month’s Black Library news and releases, and talking about what I’ve been reading and reviewing over that time. This is partially designed to replace the Black Library Weekly articles which I used to write (but which I found myself spending WAY too much time working on), and partly to give me the opportunity to just talk a little bit about what I’ve been reading and what’s been going on in the world of Black Library.

Looking Back at 2018 and Forward to 2019

As usual I’m a little bit late in putting this together, but I always enjoy looking back at the year just gone and reflecting on how things have gone for Track of Words. 2018 was my fifth year of working on Track of Words and while I hadn’t planned to, I ended up really going for it. I published more reviews, interviews and blog posts than in any of the previous four years – including a non-stop run of at least one post a day for a whopping 153 days – and I hit some milestones that a few years ago would have looked almost impossible to achieve.
