November’s 2020 Releases From Aconyte Books

Have you checked out any of Aconyte Books’ cool new tie-in fiction yet? Last month I put together an article showing all of the new novels coming out in October from Aconyte, and I’m going to keep banging the drum for this great new publisher with another article along the same lines. While not quite as hectic as October’s release schedule, it looks like November is still going to see a fair few new Aconyte novels, for four different IPs, so there’s lots of cool stuff that’s going to be available to read very soon. I’ll do a quick recap of October’s releases, then take a brief look at all of the upcoming titles for November – including links to author interviews where appropriate.

Recap on October’s releases

All five of Aconyte’s October titles are now available to buy in ebook format, and as paperbacks in the US. As I mentioned last time around, Aconyte are taking a sort of two-tier approach to releases, with UK paperbacks generally coming a month or so after the US editions, so most of the October titles will be available in paperback for UK readers as of the 26th November.

Here’s a very quick run-down of the releases, including links to my reviews and author interviews.

Legend of the Five RingsCurse of Honor by David Annandale

Descent: Journeys in the DarkThe Doom of Fallowhearth by Robbie MacNiven

Marvel: HeroinesDomino: Strays by Tristan Palmgren

Marvel: Legends of AsgardThe Head of Mimir by Richard Lee Byers

Watch Dogs: LegionDay Zero by James Swallow and Josh Reynolds

It’s also worth mentioning that there’s a free ebook sampler now availableTerrifying Halloween Tales – which includes samples of five Aconyte novels. Four of those (Wrath of N’Kai, The Doom of Fallowhearth, Curse of Honor and The Last Ritual) are available to buy straight away if you like what you read, while the other one – The Night Parade of 100 Demons (Legend of the Five Rings) is due out in February.

If you’re looking at all these titles and IPs and wondering where to start, this sampler is the first place to look!

November’s releases

This month sees four new Aconyte novels published – the ebooks and US paperbacks for three of these are published today (3rd November), followed by UK paperbacks for all but one of them on the 10th December. I’ll explain the release schedule for the fourth title when I get to it below.

As with last month’s article, I’ll include the publisher’s synopsis for each book and then links out to my author interviews. I haven’t yet got reviews ready for any of these, but I’m hoping to rectify that soon…

Marvel: Xavier’s Academy – Liberty & Justice For All by Carrie Harris
As part of their training at the New Charles Xavier Institute, Triage and Tempus are allowed to attempt their first solo flying mission. Some way into their mission, they pick up an urgent SOS message – Sentinels are attacking a superpowered mutant, who is struggling to protect an injured politician. When they abandon their lesson and answer the call, however, the identity of both will cause the two young X-Men far more problems than they bargained for.

I grew up watching X-Men: The Animated Series so this sounds like it’s going to be right up my street!

Twilight Imperium – The Fractured Void by Tim Pratt
Captain Felix Duval and the crew of the Temerarious quietly patrol a remote Mentak Coalition colony system where nothing ever happens. But when they answer a distress call from a moon under attack, that peaceful existence is torn apart. They rescue a scientist, Thales, who’s developing revolutionary technology to create new wormholes. He just needs a few things to make it fully operational… and now, ordered to aid the scientist, the Temerarious is targeted by two rival black-ops teams intent on reacquiring Thales. Can Felix trust Thales? Or is this a conspiracy to tip the balance of power in the galaxy forever?

I do like a bit of space opera, and while I’ve never played Twilight Imperium I’m looking forward to getting to know this world and its characters!

Arkham Horror – The Last Ritual by S.A. Sidor
Aspiring painter Alden Oakes is invited to join a mysterious art commune in Arkham: the New Colony. When celebrated Spanish surrealist Juan Hugo Balthazarr visits the colony, Alden and the other artists quickly fall under his charismatic spell. Balthazarr throws a string of decadent parties for Arkham’s social elite, conjuring arcane illusions which blur the boundaries between nightmare and reality. Only slowly does Alden come to suspect that Balthazarr’s mock rituals are intended to break through those walls and free what lies beyond. Alden must act, but it might already be too late to save himself, let alone Arkham.

Aconyte’s first Arkham Horror novel – Josh Reynolds’ Wrath of N’Kai – was a lot of fun, and off the back of that I’m keen to read more. This one sounds like it’s taking a slightly different angle, so it should be interesting to see what it’s like!

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla – Geirmund’s Saga by Matthew J. Kirby
Mid-9th Century CE. The Viking attacks and invasions are shattering England’s kingdoms. Born into a royal lineage of Norwegian kings, Geirmund Hel-hide sets out for adventure to prove his worth as a Viking and a warrior. A perilous journey across the sea brings him into contact with a being out of myth and grants him a mysterious ring that promises both great power and bitter betrayal.

As Geirmund rises in the ranks of King Guthrum’s legendary army, he will have to use all his cunning to face the many dangers of a land ravaged by war. Fighting alongside his band of loyal warriors, his path will soon lead him into a conflict as old as the Gods themselves.

So this one is a little different, in that Aconyte are only publishing it in the US – I’m not sure what the situation will be for UK readers. The ebook is due to be published on the 10th November, while the US paperback is due sometime in March 2021.

Coming in December

To finish off, let’s take a quick look at what’s coming in December…

  • Legend of the Five RingsPoison River by Josh Reynolds
  • Marvel: UntoldThe Harrowing of Doom by David Annandale

Both of these look really cool – keep an eye out for reviews coming in the not too distant future!

I hope this has been useful – I really can’t recommend Aconyte enough, especially if you’re already a fan of IP fiction, whether that’s Warhammer, Star Trek, Star Wars or any other IP. Warhammer fans in particular should recognise quite a lot of the authors writing for Aconyte!
